11/13/15 Riding Prospect OHV With Rick Newman

Day 1
Our old neighbors and good friends Rick & Kathy Newman (and their biscuit burner Sunny!) came down from Hillsboro to stay with us for a few days. Ricky Bobby of course brought his KTM 530 dirt scooter and the plan was to show him the area. They got here on Thursday and he and I were ready early Friday morn to hit the Prospect OHV Area. When we got to the Claude-Lewis Staging Area, we almost had the place to ourselves. We unloaded and headed out into what looked like perfect dirt with no dust! We started off just north of the staging area, came back around and hit the Minnihaha Trail (most awesome!), then we went up to the Hamacher Bluff Trail, and that's when things got interesting with the snow!

It steadily got deeper, and deeper, but we kept pushing onward till we got to the top on the main road. We decided we'd had enough, so came down the road, which turned out to be the biggest white-knuckle experience for the day due to the 4WD tracks being frozen - yikes!

Once down from that eye opener, we hit the cool Horse Trail and the majority of the gnarly snow was gone. Due to the lateness of the day, we shortcut back to the truck and called it a day. We of course hit Becky's at Union Creek on the way home for pie!

Day 2
Saturday we were up early and Ricky Bobby was excited to ride in something besides snow, so we headed up to MRA's Lilly Prairie and decided to ride the previous weekend's Poker Run B Course, since he'd never ridden there before. It was yet another beautiful day and the Fall colors were in full bloom!

After that awesome day of fun trails, we hit the Frau Kemmling Schoolhaus Brewhaus in Jacksonville on the way home, got scolded and educated that yards of beer are British, not German, then arrived home for more barley pop - Ricky deserved it for not hardly riding much lately! They had to leave the next day, but hopefully they got a good taste of Southern Oregon!

You don't stop riding because you grow old, you grow old because you stop riding.
