8/9~12/20 Riding The Sierra Passes

Postby Tawmass » Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:04 pm

Day 1 of 4

Sunday morning I met DaveR at a small coffee stand at the south exit of Ashland at 8am. This would be my first trip using the Gold Loop Coyote Bags and my KTM 790R was purring to go also. Turns out I went to school with relatives of the coffee stand - small world!

We really had a great time with Bill & Debby at the Lariat Lodge in Quincy, CA - they were very friendly and helpful! We had a tasty dinner at the Quintopia Brewing Company in the evening and called it a night.

Yes, it was nothing short of awesome, and yes, we social distanced. Here's the getting there Day One video:

Day 2 of 4

We had a delicious breakfast in Quincy at a place called Morning Thunder out on the sidewalk! We even got some rain at the end of the day. We ran into a road blockage at Donner Pass, so had to turn back. (This was where they had the World Round Trials Event a few years ago.) The Truckee River was packed with rafters! Emerald Bay was stellar as usual. My GoPro locked up, so I used some stock pix and video. I almost ran out of gas in Lake Tahoe! Video below:

Day 3 of 4

After morning java at Nevada Joe's (My Brother's suggestion) we rode my favorite piece: Ebbett's Pass! Was so much fun I had to split it up! We even saw some antique equipment and trains in Sonora! I was feeling nostalgic music wise. We pulled into Bridgeport, CA just as it was starting to rain - perfect timing! Next day I'm homeward bound! Video here:

Day 4 of 4

The last day of touring the Sierra Passes, DaveR and I split and I rode almost 500 miles home. Some BIG desert expanses, cool canyons and one BIG pit!
